The Public Health Environmental Surveillance Open Data Model (PHES-ODM, or ODM)
Description
PHES-ODM began as an open data model for wastwater-based surveillance of SARS-CoV-2. PHES-ODM Version 2 expands the original ODM to include surface and air testing, in addition to water. Version 2 also include robust support for reporting any biologic, toxin, or other health risks.
The ODM strives to improve wastewater surveillance through interoperable data. The ODM follows an open science approach, including including FAIR Guiding Principles. Uses an Open software approach, including operates with the guidance of an international steering committee. People and institutions can contribute to the development of the ODM and the ODM seeks to support a wide range of users.
This repository includes
- Dictionary reference files for all ODM versions.
- Scripts to set up an SQL relational database for the ODM schema.
- Roadmap and work-in-progress.
- How to contribute.
- Code of conduct.
- Acknowledgements.
- Steering committee minutes.

Data and metadata dictionary
The ODM is comprised of 15 report tables and six look-up tables, linked to each other based on logic relationships. The following figure provides an overview of the different data sources that are currently captured.
