file\n\nWhat is NCO?\nThe netCDF Operators, NCO, are a suite of programs known as operators. \nThe operators facilitate manipulation and analysis of self-describing\ndata stored in the freely available netCDF and HDF formats \n(http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf and\nhttp://hdfgroup.org, respectively). \nEach NCO operator (e.g., ncks) takes netCDF or HDF input file(s),\nperforms an operation (e.g., averaging, hyperslabbing, or renaming),\nand outputs information, usually a processed netCDF file  \nAlthough most users of netCDF and HDF data are involved in scientific\nresearch, these data formats, and thus NCO, are generic and are\nequally useful in fields from agriculture to zoology.\nThe NCO Users Guide illustrates NCO use with examples from the field\nof climate modeling and analysis. \nThe NCO homepage is http://nco.sf.net.\n\nInstallation:\nNCO runs on all major UNIX systems and MS Windows.\nNCO (except ncap2) requires only an ANSI-compliant C99 compiler.\nNCO can be built and installed with the standard GNU autotools\n./configure mechanism or with a custom Makefile.\nncap2 requires an C++ compiler and can be hard to build.\nPlease submit patches to help simplify the build system!\n\nNewer Autotools Configure Build Procedure:\nTry the newer ./configure mechanism first by using the configure\ncommand in the
